“My Favorite Husband” ~Pam McCutcheon~ Review

Widow Kelly Vincent is stunned when her husband, a fearless adventurer who has been missing for years and recently declared legally dead, returns on the day of his memorial service, which also happens to be the day of her second wedding.

Biography from Amazon:

I’ve been a reader all my life, starting out with fairy tales and graduating to reading everything in the house when I grew older, including my parents’ romances, mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, and action/adventure.

If a writer can combine romance and humor with a fantasy, science fiction, or paranormal element, I’m hooked. Add action/adventure, and it’s even better!

Since I couldn’t find quite enough books that combine these elements, I sat down to write some of my own. Read more about my books on http://www.pammc.com

I now live in Colorado with my rescue dogs.

OMG! This book is AMAZING!!! I seriously couldn’t put it down! I found this gem on Amazon Prime and was able to snag it for free but I totally would have purchased it!! I bought the next book in the series last night. Her style of writing has me hooked. The book was so much fun! I laughed so many times at the main character’s brother Scott, he was hilarious and endearing.

The main character Kelly has been dealing with the loss of her husband with the help of her boss Spencer over the past 5 years. Chaz her husband got lost in the Amazon and was presumed dead. Five years have gone by and Kelly has finally decided to declare him dead, have a memorial service and get married to Spencer all on the same day. Things don’t go according to plan and Chaz, the hunky Indiana Jones type, shows up at his memorial service and causes a huge ruckus!

Now that Chaz is back in her life Kelly can’t decide who she will choose!! She just married Spencer and was supposed to be on her honeymoon but now she is checking into an elegant hotel with her 1st husband and brother in tow. It gets worse as the book progresses. Kelly’s mother shows up to throw her two cents in and then Candace the woman in love with Spencer comes to steal him back from Kelly.

There is so many characters, which I normally don’t like but this book it didn’t matter. Each character was well developed and an integral part of the overall story. This book takes you on a wild adventurous ride over a balcony more than once at the hands of a devilishly good looking Casanova. Who will she choose? The choice is obvious to everyone but her. It takes her a lot of looking inward to decide how she wants to spend the rest of her life and with whom.

I love how this story played out. It is adorable, fun and steamy in places. The author does a fantastic job and highly recommend getting this book to read! It is such a wonderful story!!

Do yourself  favor and go get it!!!!!!!

“Christmas Shopaholic” ~Sophie Kinsella~ Review

’Tis the season for change and Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) is embracing it, returning from the States to live in the charming village of Letherby and working with her best friend, Suze, in the gift shop of Suze’s stately home. Life is good, especially now that Becky takes time every day for mindfulness—even if that only means listening to a meditation tape while hunting down online bargains.

But Becky still adores the traditions of Christmas: Her parents hosting, carols playing on repeat, her mother pretending she made the Christmas pudding, and the neighbors coming ’round for sherry in their terrible holiday sweaters. Things are looking cheerier than ever, until Becky’s parents announce they’re moving to ultra-trendy Shoreditch—unable to resist the draw of craft beer and smashed avocados—and ask Becky if she’ll host this year. What could possibly go wrong?

Becky’s sister demands a vegan turkey, her husband insists that he just wants aftershave (again), and little Minnie needs a very specific picnic hamper: Surely Becky can manage all this, as well as the surprise appearance of an old boyfriend–turned–rock star and his pushy new girlfriend, whose motives are far from clear. But as the countdown to Christmas begins and her bighearted plans take an unexpected turn toward disaster, Becky wonders if chaos will ensue, or if she’ll manage to bring comfort and joy to Christmas after all.

Sophie Kinsella is the author of the bestselling Shopaholic series as well as the novels Can You Keep a Secret? The Undomestic GoddessRemember Me?Twenties GirlI’ve Got Your NumberWedding NightMy Not So Perfect LifeSurprise Me, and, most recently, I Owe You One. She lives in the UK with her family.

I am a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella! Not only is her Shopaholic series amazing but all of her books have been fantastic. She is an amazing author and her characters are endearing and memorable. I get super excited when I see that she has a new book out, so when I seen this book last month in our local library I new I had to read it. And I did read it, over a month ago lol! But that is my life lately, I am super behind on everything. This book however is still in my brain and I just had to share with you how much I loved it! Just like every other book of hers, it is amazing! The story is quirky and fun while being serious and sweet.

Becky is her usual kooky self in this book and some of her antics just makes you roll your eyes but she is a fun loving character. You can’t help but wonder how Brandon puts up with her crazy overspending, because OMG she spends so much money! But he loves her so much and that’s the point of marriage right, to love each other no matter the circumstance. They are an adorable couple and I mean really couple goals right there. You can’t help but love them and their story (if you have kept up with them over the years). I love their story and I am happy to see her continuing this series.

Her family is just as crazy as Becky is, which makes the series even more hilarious. Her parents are on a new life track and are trying their darnedest to keep up with a younger hippie crowd. This in turn makes everyone uncomfortable and made me laugh numerous times! Becky’s ex-boyfriend shows up and things get super weird lol. There are some strange vibes going around and Becky mistakes his reappearance in her life for a long lost lust. Things happen and hilarity ensues.

There are many different story lines that bring this story together and so many characters dealing with their own struggles. She makes you laugh, makes you second guess a few characters and makes you fall in love with them all at the same time. It is the perfect wholesome book that everyone needs to read! If you haven’t read the previous Shopaholic books you should do that first! This is a series and should be read in order for the best comprehension! All of them are great books, but this one is definitely my favorite. It’s a great Christmasy story that is sure to put a smile on your face!

Zapzapmath School App Review

We have used several different educational apps for my 3 boys and they usually get bored with them, choosing to play a game such as minecraft or whatever will rot their brains. Just for the record we do not let the boys play on their ipads until all chores are finished for the week. Then they get an hour, 2 at the max depending on how many chores they did! 😂 I’m that mean mom…

But anyways, zapzapmath has been great for them. They enjoy playing it and fought over who would be the first to try it out. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect but the reviews on it were stellar. I was excited to be able to review it. It’s a great app for all ages. My 6, 8 and 10 year-old boys love it. It’s fun and entertaining, yet they learn a lot.

There are several different games on the app and they level up to harder games once they pass whatever game they are playing. I watched my 6 year old play and it was shapes and counting, with each passing level it asked him to sort with a harder criteria. It made him stop and think.

My only problem with the app is the fact that I had to read the questions tot 6 year old. He can’t read yet and had a hard time with knowing what they wanted since it didn’t talk to him hence the reason I set with him while he played. He still enjoyed it and I think the app is great but if it is for kindergarten they need to make it be able to read the questions to him. My other two can read so there was no issues with them playing the game and they both enjoyed it!

Overall, I recommend this app. It’s a great tool for learning and it is better than junky brain rotting games. Definitely go check it out! I plan on looking into their other apps!

SoCoo Water Jug Review

I am always on the look out for a new sports water bottle, not only for myself but for my kids. We are an active family and we use water bottles like they are going out of style. I may or may not have an obsession with reusable water bottles, cups, mugs, etc. It’s a problem lol!

I received this water jug for a fair and honest review, and honestly I love it! It keeps the water cold for long periods of time AND it holds 72 oz of water! This lasts awhile when we are on the go! I love the color of it and the fact that it has a carrying handle! It makes it easy to hold on to and is super portable. The spout does not lock but it does have a tight latch on it. My youngest accidentally dropped it with it full of water and there was no leaking or breaking of the sides. I was honestly surprised! It held up to a 6 year old being rough with it! This would be great for camping or hiking as well as sports!

I was a little concerned on how well it would keep the water cold because it is not a heavy duty plastic. But it did a great job and the water stayed cold for a good 4-5 hours. I filled it up for my sons when they were out playing football one afternoon and by evening time it was still cold and they were still drinking out of it.

Overall, a good product for a great price! Only 8.99 plus shipping if you don’t have Amazon prime! I will definitely be purchasing more of these for my boys!

The mommy flu?

We all know about the man flu.

You know the time when your husband is dying because of a simple stuffy nose?

Yea.. The man flu.. They are at death’s door and can’t. move. a. muscle or they might not live to see…… another……. second.

Well I am 100% positive their should be a thing called the MOM FLU. This doesn’t have to mean you have the flu. This means that anytime you are sick as a  mom you still get shit done.

I don’t know how many times I have been sick and still had to take care of kids or continue to work or transport my boys wherever they need to go.

The good thing is most of the time I have help from my husband but he works over an hour away and sometimes isn’t around when I get sick (luckily, I don’t get sick often).

So here I am fighting off some viral crap that my 10 year old gave me and I’m driving them to a Cubscout meeting. Where I am the leader. Then I have yoga afterwards. No time for dinner or a sniffly nose or a cough.

Shit has to get done and no one can take my place and do those jobs for me.

I am woman, hear me cough… I mean roar… I am dragging ass but I still am fulfilling my commitments not only as a scout leader, yoga instructor, and para but also as a parent.

MOMFLU..it’s not a bad thing. We are rockstars!

Yes, I should probably be resting… I can hear you picky germaphobes all the way across the internet… I shouldn’t be exposing other people to this junk, whatever it might be.

But I have a job to do and things that have to get done.

So pardon my sickly, probably incoherent rant but I just want to say kudos to all those moms out there that are killing it day by day, rain or shine,  in sickness and in health! 🙂 You guys are the true rockstars!!

What happens when you are sick? Do you have help? Backup?

How do you take care of yourself and your family during this time? I would love to know! 🙂

Found this gem of a meme on google! It is so true! Mom’s are the best things out there, we take care of everyone!

Keeping it real…

Almost a year ago I decided to give up blogging to see if it would help slow down my life. I felt like everything was weighing me down and this was the one thing I could easily give up. Needless to say, it didn’t help much. My life is still super crazy and crammed full of activities and responsibilities. But I’ve missed it. I’ve missed the opportunity to read and review books. I’ve missed the opportunity to interact with others in the blogging community and I’ve missed being able to express myself with writing and photography.

Even though life is not any slower than it was a year ago I feel like something is missing. I miss having a creative outlet to share my family adventures and our crazy life. So many things have changed this year, but everyday I think that would be a great blog post but I never get around to writing it down. This is me actually putting it out there for accountability! I want to get back to the blogging world and express myself!

So for those of you who are gracious enough to follow me, I hope to have more content coming your way soon! From book/product reviews, family trips, my life as a yoga instructor/ kindergarten Para and boy mom to recipes and traveling with kids tips!

Much love to you all and again thank you for following me! 😍 😘 ♥

Me keeping it real in kindergarten! ❤️

“The Mother Road” ~Meghan Quinn~

Product Description

Never in a million years would I have pictured myself as an axe-wielding, dragon lady, chopping up multi-colored flannel shirts into my very own plaid mulch. But here I am, chopping away my frustrations.

It all started when my brother, Paul, convinced me to go on one last family road trip across the Mother Road with him and my dad.. Just like old times, right? Wrong. What Paul fails to mention is his best man, Porter, will be joining us, who just so happens to be my childhood crush and the man who broke my heart four years ago.

What is supposed to be a fun, family bonding experience across Route 66 turns into a war of pranks, awkward moments and bathrooms full of dirty flannel shirts and day old beard clippings. Paul’s know-it-all attitude and Porter’s devilish charm brings me to the brink of my sanity on my seven day trek across the United States with three bearded men in a small 1980’s RV.

Fantastic read! This one will have you laughing, crying, screaming and falling in love all at once. This author is new to me, but OMG she was so great that I definitely intend to check out some of her other books! The story flowed seamlessly and you couldn’t help but fall in love with every single character.

The two main characters Marley and Porter have a past, one neither want to talk about. They haven’t seen each other in years, the last time was when he left her at her most vulnerable. He is practically family and the best friend of her brother. Is their relationship off limits. He wants her, she hates him but could she possibly still love him? You have to read it to find out!

Growing up the family took numerous road trips. It was their thing, a most prized possession. Memories were made and a love that bonded them tightly, that is until their mother falls ill and passes away. Marley eventually moves on and out on her own becoming a successful beauty blogger. She has put Porter and the road trips behind her.

Marley’s older brother Paul is getting married and he wants one more road trip before he ties the knot. So her dad and Paul whisk her away in a ratty old camper and hilarity ensues. One thing after another happens to this poor girl, you can’t help but laugh and fall in love with her even more with every page. She definitely has spunk! They are the typical brother and sister, constantly pulling pranks on each other.

Paul is crazy, feminine, has a “man stink” lol (her words) and is a brother anyone would love to have.

Porter is sexy and comes off as a jerk at first but you will warm up to him! He is unsure of himself at times but his sense of humor is great! His love, even when not spoken, is never-ending for Marley and it is super adorable!

Their dad Bernie is hilarious and curses using president’s names. How adorable is that? He is sweet but fierce and all 3 of them fear his wrath!

The best part of the story is the fact that the author brings in things that are real. The iconic stops they make along Route 66 are real and that makes the story so much more fun. Almost believable really. I loved the history the characters had, they had all experienced the loss of the mother deeply and you could feel that in the way the characters described her.

The love story that comes from this book is funny, love-able and realistic. I loved this entire book, the story, the history, the iconic stops, the family dynamics, EVERYTHING. It was perfect in every way imaginable and I can not wait to read more from her. I really hope there eventually becomes a sequel to this book! I love Marley and Porter! 🙂

Review: Noise Canceling Bluetooth Headphones

I have never owned a pair of wireless headphones, I just don’t use them that often. My husband on the other hand loves them and has had several pairs of them over the years. I was asked to review these noise canceling bluetooth headphones and let’s just say my interest was piqued once I seen the picture of them. They are unlike any other bluetooth headphones that I have ever been around. They are just earbuds. How can these work? They claim to be noise canceling, sweatproof and much more. I was skeptical to say the least.

Upon arrival, I was impressed with how they were packaged. Nice outer box that houses the headphones/charging unit, the charging cord and extra earbud covers. All of it nice and orderly, just like I like it. I was surprised by how small they are. I’m not usually a fan of the earbuds that have the squishy piece that has to fit down in your ear, I just don’t like how they feel in my ears. I guess this is where the noise canceling part comes in lol, because once they are in everything is muffled.

I was a little frustrated though because the package does not come with any type of instructions. No way of knowing how to use it I just started pushing buttons and messing around with it. I had the hardest time getting it to connect to my bluetooth on my Google Pixel. It was very frustrating! Once I did get it connected only one of the headphones worked. What the hell!? I was so confused! I finally got on Amazon to read other reviews, surely I was not the only one that was having this many issues. I figured at this point I would have to write a bad review because I was so irritated.

Well, low and behold, there were instructions on the product page on Amazon. So first of all, that is ridiculous, add a damn instruction booklet to your product. Save your consumer a little bit of hassle please! Even when I found the instructions on Amazon, I still could not get them to work. At this point I was ready to throw the entire thing across the room. So not to ruin the product, I gave myself a time out and came back to it later.

I finally got it to work and both are functioning correctly and have good sound quality. I still can’t figure out why it pauses when I touch the earbud, because there is no instruction on how to use it while it is functioning. According to Amazon it has the ability to use only one earbud at a time, which to me is weird. If I am going to listen to music or workout I will be using both earbuds.

Overall this is a strange product, not sure how to use it but if you finally get it to work then it works well. The sound is great and when it actually continually plays without pausing it is nice to use. I haven’t tried them while working out yet, but my concern with that is them falling out while running. I don’t like that you have to shove them in your ears so far for them to be in tightly but some people like them this way (my husband for example). I like the hard plastic ones and nothing will sway me from those! I want to see some bluetooth headphones with the hard plastic earbuds! Who’s with me!? 🙂 They are kind of pricey and are super confusing to use. I’m not sure if I would recommend them or not, the concept is great but not knowing how to use them is a big pain in the butt.

If you want to check them out they are available on AMAZON.

“We Hope For Better Things” ~Erin Bartels~ Review

When Detroit Free Press reporter Elizabeth Balsam meets James Rich, his strange request–that she look up a relative she didn’t know she had in order to deliver an old camera and a box of photos–seems like it isn’t worth her time. But when she loses her job after a botched investigation, she suddenly finds herself with nothing but time.

At her great-aunt’s 150-year-old farmhouse, Elizabeth uncovers a series of mysterious items, locked doors, and hidden graves. As she searches for answers to the riddles around her, the remarkable stories of two women who lived in this very house emerge as testaments to love, resilience, and courage in the face of war, racism, and misunderstanding. And as Elizabeth soon discovers, the past is never as past as we might like to think.

Debut novelist Erin Bartels takes readers on an emotional journey through time–from the volatile streets of 1960s Detroit to the Underground Railroad during the Civil War–to uncover the past, confront the seeds of hatred, and discover where love goes to hide.

ERIN BARTELS is a copywriter and freelance editor by day, a novelist by night, and a painter, seamstress, poet, and photographer in between. Her debut novel, WE HOPE FOR BETTER THINGS, released in January 2019 and will be followed in September 2019 with THE WORDS BETWEEN US, the manuscript of which was a finalist for the 2015 Rising Star Award from the Women’s Fiction Writers Association. Her short story “This Elegant Ruin” was a finalist in The Saturday Evening Post 2014 Great American Fiction Contest. Her poems have been published by The Lyric and The East Lansing Poetry Attack. A member of the Capital City Writers Association and the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, she is former features editor of WFWA’s Write On! magazine.

Erin lives in the beautiful, water-defined state of Michigan where she is never more than a ninety minute drive from one of the Great Lakes or six miles from an inland lake, river, or stream. She grew up in the Bay City area waiting for freighters and sailboats at drawbridges and watching the best 4th of July fireworks displays in the nation. She spent her college and young married years in Grand Rapids feeling decidedly not-Dutch. She currently lives with her husband and son in Lansing, nestled somewhere between angry protesters on the Capitol lawn and couch-burning frat boys at Michigan State University. And yet, she claims it is really quite peaceful.

A fantastic book! This is a great melding of a past and present story. I don’t normally like when books or movies jump back and forth between time periods, it is hard to keep things straight and I begin to lose interest. This book is different though, the chapters are dated. You know exactly when it is happening and there are only a few characters within each chapter. It is not overwhelming at all and makes for an easy read.

This is a story that revolves around a box of old photos. I wasn’t sure where this would take me but the back cover says “Take an emotional journey through time– from the volatile streets of 1960’s Detroit to Michigan’s Underground Railroad…” I had a time period in my head so I knew when but I really wasn’t sure how this story would end. It is a wide range of time periods that are so intricately woven together that you won’t want to stop!

It says it will take you on an emotional journey but I was not fully prepared for how deeply this book would make me feel. It takes you through a time of injustice and racism. A powerful story that will keep you turning the pages!

This author is new to me, but she did not disappoint. Her writing is fluent and flows so naturally I felt like I was in the story with the characters. It is such a powerful book filled with a rich history, new beginnings and a few little twists. I highly recommend reading this book. You will not be disappointed. I loved the story, the characters and the history. Go check it out! 🙂
