The mommy flu?

We all know about the man flu.

You know the time when your husband is dying because of a simple stuffy nose?

Yea.. The man flu.. They are at death’s door and can’t. move. a. muscle or they might not live to see…… another……. second.

Well I am 100% positive their should be a thing called the MOM FLU. This doesn’t have to mean you have the flu. This means that anytime you are sick as aΒ  mom you still get shit done.

I don’t know how many times I have been sick and still had to take care of kids or continue to work or transport my boys wherever they need to go.

The good thing is most of the time I have help from my husband but he works over an hour away and sometimes isn’t around when I get sick (luckily, I don’t get sick often).

So here I am fighting off some viral crap that my 10 year old gave me and I’m driving them to a Cubscout meeting. Where I am the leader. Then I have yoga afterwards. No time for dinner or a sniffly nose or a cough.

Shit has to get done and no one can take my place and do those jobs for me.

I am woman, hear me cough… I mean roar… I am dragging ass but I still am fulfilling my commitments not only as a scout leader, yoga instructor, and para but also as a parent.’s not a bad thing. We are rockstars!

Yes, I should probably be resting… I can hear you picky germaphobes all the way across the internet… I shouldn’t be exposing other people to this junk, whatever it might be.

But I have a job to do and things that have to get done.

So pardon my sickly, probably incoherent rant but I just want to say kudos to all those moms out there that are killing it day by day, rain or shine,Β  in sickness and in health! πŸ™‚ You guys are the true rockstars!!

What happens when you are sick? Do you have help? Backup?

How do you take care of yourself and your family during this time? I would love to know! πŸ™‚

Found this gem of a meme on google! It is so true! Mom’s are the best things out there, we take care of everyone!

Keeping it real…

Almost a year ago I decided to give up blogging to see if it would help slow down my life. I felt like everything was weighing me down and this was the one thing I could easily give up. Needless to say, it didn’t help much. My life is still super crazy and crammed full of activities and responsibilities. But I’ve missed it. I’ve missed the opportunity to read and review books. I’ve missed the opportunity to interact with others in the blogging community and I’ve missed being able to express myself with writing and photography.

Even though life is not any slower than it was a year ago I feel like something is missing. I miss having a creative outlet to share my family adventures and our crazy life. So many things have changed this year, but everyday I think that would be a great blog post but I never get around to writing it down. This is me actually putting it out there for accountability! I want to get back to the blogging world and express myself!

So for those of you who are gracious enough to follow me, I hope to have more content coming your way soon! From book/product reviews, family trips, my life as a yoga instructor/ kindergarten Para and boy mom to recipes and traveling with kids tips!

Much love to you all and again thank you for following me! 😍 😘 β™₯

Me keeping it real in kindergarten! ❀️

“The Mother Road” ~Meghan Quinn~

Product Description

Never in a million years would I have pictured myself as an axe-wielding, dragon lady, chopping up multi-colored flannel shirts into my very own plaid mulch. But here I am, chopping away my frustrations.

It all started when my brother, Paul, convinced me to go on one last family road trip across the Mother Road with him and my dad.. Just like old times, right? Wrong. What Paul fails to mention is his best man, Porter, will be joining us, who just so happens to be my childhood crush and the man who broke my heart four years ago.

What is supposed to be a fun, family bonding experience across Route 66 turns into a war of pranks, awkward moments and bathrooms full of dirty flannel shirts and day old beard clippings. Paul’s know-it-all attitude and Porter’s devilish charm brings me to the brink of my sanity on my seven day trek across the United States with three bearded men in a small 1980’s RV.

USA Today Bestselling Author, wife, adoptive mother, and peanut butter lover. Author of romantic comedies and contemporary romance, Meghan Quinn brings readers the perfect combination of heart, humor, and heat in every book.

Fantastic read! This one will have you laughing, crying, screaming and falling in love all at once. This author is new to me, but OMG she was so great that I definitely intend to check out some of her other books! The story flowed seamlessly and you couldn’t help but fall in love with every single character.

The two main characters Marley and Porter have a past, one neither want to talk about. They haven’t seen each other in years, the last time was when he left her at her most vulnerable. He is practically family and the best friend of her brother. Is their relationship off limits. He wants her, she hates him but could she possibly still love him? You have to read it to find out!

Growing up the family took numerous road trips. It was their thing, a most prized possession. Memories were made and a love that bonded them tightly, that is until their mother falls ill and passes away. Marley eventually moves on and out on her own becoming a successful beauty blogger. She has put Porter and the road trips behind her.

Marley’s older brother Paul is getting married and he wants one more road trip before he ties the knot. So her dad and Paul whisk her away in a ratty old camper and hilarity ensues. One thing after another happens to this poor girl, you can’t help but laugh and fall in love with her even more with every page. She definitely has spunk! They are the typical brother and sister, constantly pulling pranks on each other.

Paul is crazy, feminine, has a “man stink” lol (her words) and is a brother anyone would love to have.

Porter is sexy and comes off as a jerk at first but you will warm up to him! He is unsure of himself at times but his sense of humor is great! His love, even when not spoken, is never-ending for Marley and it is super adorable!

Their dad Bernie is hilarious and curses using president’s names. How adorable is that? He is sweet but fierce and all 3 of them fear his wrath!

The best part of the story is the fact that the author brings in things that are real. The iconic stops they make along Route 66 are real and that makes the story so much more fun. Almost believable really. I loved the history the characters had, they had all experienced the loss of the mother deeply and you could feel that in the way the characters described her.

The love story that comes from this book is funny, love-able and realistic. I loved this entire book, the story, the history, the iconic stops, the family dynamics, EVERYTHING. It was perfect in every way imaginable and I can not wait to read more from her. I really hope there eventually becomes a sequel to this book! I love Marley and Porter! πŸ™‚

Review: Noise Canceling Bluetooth Headphones

I have never owned a pair of wireless headphones, I just don’t use them that often. My husband on the other hand loves them and has had several pairs of them over the years. I was asked to review these noise canceling bluetooth headphones and let’s just say my interest was piqued once I seen the picture of them. They are unlike any other bluetooth headphones that I have ever been around. They are just earbuds. How can these work? They claim to be noise canceling, sweatproof and much more. I was skeptical to say the least.

Upon arrival, I was impressed with how they were packaged. Nice outer box that houses the headphones/charging unit, the charging cord and extra earbud covers. All of it nice and orderly, just like I like it. I was surprised by how small they are. I’m not usually a fan of the earbuds that have the squishy piece that has to fit down in your ear, I just don’t like how they feel in my ears. I guess this is where the noise canceling part comes in lol, because once they are in everything is muffled.

I was a little frustrated though because the package does not come with any type of instructions. No way of knowing how to use it I just started pushing buttons and messing around with it. I had the hardest time getting it to connect to my bluetooth on my Google Pixel. It was very frustrating! Once I did get it connected only one of the headphones worked. What the hell!? I was so confused! I finally got on Amazon to read other reviews, surely I was not the only one that was having this many issues. I figured at this point I would have to write a bad review because I was so irritated.

Well, low and behold, there were instructions on the product page on Amazon. So first of all, that is ridiculous, add a damn instruction booklet to your product. Save your consumer a little bit of hassle please! Even when I found the instructions on Amazon, I still could not get them to work. At this point I was ready to throw the entire thing across the room. So not to ruin the product, I gave myself a time out and came back to it later.

I finally got it to work and both are functioning correctly and have good sound quality. I still can’t figure out why it pauses when I touch the earbud, because there is no instruction on how to use it while it is functioning. According to Amazon it has the ability to use only one earbud at a time, which to me is weird. If I am going to listen to music or workout I will be using both earbuds.

Overall this is a strange product, not sure how to use it but if you finally get it to work then it works well. The sound is great and when it actually continually plays without pausing it is nice to use. I haven’t tried them while working out yet, but my concern with that is them falling out while running. I don’t like that you have to shove them in your ears so far for them to be in tightly but some people like them this way (my husband for example). I like the hard plastic ones and nothing will sway me from those! I want to see some bluetooth headphones with the hard plastic earbuds! Who’s with me!? πŸ™‚ They are kind of pricey and are super confusing to use. I’m not sure if I would recommend them or not, the concept is great but not knowing how to use them is a big pain in the butt.

If you want to check them out they are available on AMAZON.

“We Hope For Better Things” ~Erin Bartels~ Review

When Detroit Free Press reporter Elizabeth Balsam meets James Rich, his strange request–that she look up a relative she didn’t know she had in order to deliver an old camera and a box of photos–seems like it isn’t worth her time. But when she loses her job after a botched investigation, she suddenly finds herself with nothing but time.

At her great-aunt’s 150-year-old farmhouse, Elizabeth uncovers a series of mysterious items, locked doors, and hidden graves. As she searches for answers to the riddles around her, the remarkable stories of two women who lived in this very house emerge as testaments to love, resilience, and courage in the face of war, racism, and misunderstanding. And as Elizabeth soon discovers, the past is never as past as we might like to think.

Debut novelist Erin Bartels takes readers on an emotional journey through time–from the volatile streets of 1960s Detroit to the Underground Railroad during the Civil War–to uncover the past, confront the seeds of hatred, and discover where love goes to hide.

ERIN BARTELS is a copywriter and freelance editor by day, a novelist by night, and a painter, seamstress, poet, and photographer in between. Her debut novel, WE HOPE FOR BETTER THINGS, released in January 2019 and will be followed in September 2019 with THE WORDS BETWEEN US, the manuscript of which was a finalist for the 2015 Rising Star Award from the Women’s Fiction Writers Association. Her short story β€œThis Elegant Ruin” was a finalist in The Saturday Evening Post 2014 Great American Fiction Contest. Her poems have been published by The Lyric and The East Lansing Poetry Attack. A member of the Capital City Writers Association and the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, she is former features editor of WFWA’s Write On! magazine.

Erin lives in the beautiful, water-defined state of Michigan where she is never more than a ninetyΒ minute drive from one of the Great Lakes or six miles from an inland lake, river, or stream. She grew up in the Bay City area waiting for freighters and sailboats at drawbridges and watching the best 4th of July fireworks displays in the nation. She spent her college and young married years in Grand Rapids feeling decidedly not-Dutch. She currently lives with her husband and son in Lansing, nestled somewhere between angry protesters on the Capitol lawn and couch-burning frat boys at Michigan State University. And yet, she claims it is really quite peaceful.

A fantastic book! This is a great melding of a past and present story. I don’t normally like when books or movies jump back and forth between time periods, it is hard to keep things straight and I begin to lose interest. This book is different though, the chapters are dated. You know exactly when it is happening and there are only a few characters within each chapter. It is not overwhelming at all and makes for an easy read.

This is a story that revolves around a box of old photos. I wasn’t sure where this would take me but the back cover says “Take an emotional journey through time– from the volatile streets of 1960’s Detroit to Michigan’s Underground Railroad…” I had a time period in my head so I knew when but I really wasn’t sure how this story would end. It is a wide range of time periods that are so intricately woven together that you won’t want to stop!

It says it will take you on an emotional journey but I was not fully prepared for how deeply this book would make me feel. It takes you through a time of injustice and racism. A powerful story that will keep you turning the pages!

This author is new to me, but she did not disappoint. Her writing is fluent and flows so naturally I felt like I was in the story with the characters. It is such a powerful book filled with a rich history, new beginnings and a few little twists. I highly recommend reading this book. You will not be disappointed. I loved the story, the characters and the history. Go check it out! πŸ™‚

21 Day Blogging Challenge: Our Christmas Adventures

We don’t travel often but when we do we always to try to do something that is super fun and we try to stay for at least a week wherever we go. This year we ended up in Colorado and Wyoming to visit family over the summer. I assumed those places would be cooler than what they were. In my mind it should be like 70* for the high. It was HOT! I was so disappointed, it was hot and sweaty and gross. To top it all off there was no wildlife whatsoever! We had fun but I was so disappointed in the weather and lack of wildlife that I did not want to ever go back lol!

When my mother approached me about renting a cabin for Christmas in Colorado I was hesitant. Colorado? Again? That was literally my answer to her. I was trying to be positive that Colorado would be fantastic in the winter but I did not want to go! So I put on a brave face and agreed to the trip. So here we are in Estes Park, Colorado….

I don’t regret it! The day after we got here it snowed! We don’t get much snow where we are from, so my kids were super excited! πŸ™‚ It was a fun adventure into the Rocky Mountain National Park and shopping in town! I will continue to share our adventures this week for Christmas! It’s going to be a whirlwind but it has definitely changed my perspective on the state of Colorado lol!

I definitely recommend going to the Rocky Mountain National Park if you ever get a chance to go!

What hot toys are your kids asking for this year?

My kids watch YouTube videos whenever they are given time on their Ipads (which isn’t often lol). They are obsessed with the toy destruction videos or the unwrapping of toys… super boring right? My kids are making those YouTube kids millions of dollars (Ryan’s Toys Review). I want that kind of job lol, make millions videoing my kids unwrapping toys and playing with them? Yes, please!

Anyways, they are always asking throughout the year for whatever new toy those kids are playing with. I’m not sure what you played with when you were kids but some of the junk they ask for is insane. Toys are definitely not what they used to be. Let’s get real here, I still own several of my childhood toys and guess what? They are still in perfect shape after years of being played with and my kids now play with those toys and they don’t break. I bought a Buzz Lghtyear a couple years ago for my youngest and within two days the damn thing had quit working. Um, seriously? A $50 toy that works for less than 48 hours.

I’m that mom that refused to buy fidget spinners for my kids (boo on me, I know).

I’m also the mom that refuses to buy gadgets that are crazy expensive or things that make my kids lazy. (hover boards, the latest video games, etc.)

I’m also that mom that won’t let my kids play Fortnight or anything else that you have includes an online chatroom. Stranger danger, come on parents.

I’m the mom that gave my kids an Ipad (that we bought super cheap, long story lol) but only let them play with it for 2 hours a week.

In short, I am a mean mom. But I. don’t. freaking. care. Kid’s these days are lazy, ungrateful and don’t know the meaning of go play outside and use your imagination.

Luckily by the time they write their letters to Santa my boys didn’t ask for too crazy of things, they must be learning.Β  πŸ˜‰ I tell them if mom doesn’t approve then I will call Santa and tell him not to bring those toys. (insert maniacal laughter right here) They asked for some video games which is OK but there were a lot of Lego sets and actual fun toys that I don’t mind having Santa put under our tree. My middle son did go a little crazy and asked for $100 cash lol! Me too son, me too. Can Santa bring me cash for Christmas?

I want to hear it! What crazy, craziness did your kiddos ask for this year???

I love the website LoveMatters, they had a great story about a crazy wish list for Christmas! Definitely check it out, you will chuckle! πŸ™‚

Happy shopping parents!

Tis the Season to pretend to be Santa and the Elf on the Shelf!

Isn’t parenting fun?!? πŸ˜‰

Here is my kids’ Christmas lists, they get to start them in November so they have time to add to them before we go writing Santa letters. Santa letters went out yesterday, the perks of living in a small town we have our own Santa mailbox and the kids get return letters. πŸ™‚ (These are just the lists they made, they actually wrote different letters but I forgot to take pictures of them)

Review: Jialebi Bluetooth Headphones

Bluetooth headphones are fantastic, easy to use and are great if you like to listen to music while exercising. My husband has been through a couple different pairs and he seems to enjoy them! I don’t ever really get a chance to use them, I’m the one who blares my music in the house for all to hear lol!

My husband however loves to use them when he runs, mows the lawn and when the football game is on and no one else is in the mood to watch it. They are handy to have around and being cordless is a big plus. This particular brand is found on Amazon. They are a great price and a pretty nice product. They are lightweight and are easy to use. They are waterproof to boot! It claims to have 15 hours of use between charging, but I didn’t test that out lol! I will take their word for it, they do last a pretty long time though.

Being rechargeable is a must and these include a USB cord to charge them. It does not come with the plug box (for the cord) but so far no brand of headphones has come with a box. It comes with replaceable earbud covers which is nice in case you lose one or something happens to one of them. Overall, this is a great product and it is a reasonable price. Some bluetooth headphones on the market are pretty steep in price and I just can’t see spending a ton on them, especially with kids and animals in the house lol.

The best thing about this brand of headphones is the fact that the entire thing is flexible. No breaking of the neckband or bending it on accident. My husband’s very first pair got snapped in half by our toddler lol. It was a bad day in our house when those got broken. But this pair is comfy, flexible and the sound quality is great. I was very impressed with these headphones and I highly recommend them.

You can check them outΒ at Amazon!
