Molly and Finn Alcott had the picture-perfect marriage. With two gorgeous children, a lovely home and their own business, they were the couple others aspired to be. But when news of their divorce spreads through town like wildfire, it sends their beautiful image up in flames.

Molly spends years mending her broken heart. She finds joy in a life centered around her kids and career. Her happiness has a different picture now.

Then one day, she finds a letter in her mailbox. Written in Finnโ€™s handwriting, dated over fifteen years ago, itโ€™s a letter he wrote Molly after their first date.

Week after week, Finnโ€™s letters appear. Each marks a date in their history. Each holds the confession of the man who still owns Mollyโ€™s heart. Each heals a wound from their past.

Itโ€™s just too bad Finn isnโ€™t the one sending them.

“The Mother Road” ~Meghan Quinn~

Synopsis:

Product Description

Never in a million years would I have pictured myself as an axe-wielding, dragon lady, chopping up multi-colored flannel shirts into my very own plaid mulch. But here I am, chopping away my frustrations.

It all started when my brother, Paul, convinced me to go on one last family road trip across the Mother Road with him and my dad.. Just like old times, right? Wrong. What Paul fails to mention is his best man, Porter, will be joining us, who just so happens to be my childhood crush and the man who broke my heart four years ago.

What is supposed to be a fun, family bonding experience across Route 66 turns into a war of pranks, awkward moments and bathrooms full of dirty flannel shirts and day old beard clippings. Paulโ€™s know-it-all attitude and Porterโ€™s devilish charm brings me to the brink of my sanity on my seven day trek across the United States with three bearded men in a small 1980โ€™s RV.

Review:

Fantastic read! This one will have you laughing, crying, screaming and falling in love all at once. This author is new to me, but OMG she was so great that I definitely intend to check out some of her other books! The story flowed seamlessly and you couldn’t help but fall in love with every single character.

The two main characters Marley and Porter have a past, one neither want to talk about. They haven’t seen each other in years, the last time was when he left her at her most vulnerable. He is practically family and the best friend of her brother. Is their relationship off limits. He wants her, she hates him but could she possibly still love him? You have to read it to find out!

Growing up the family took numerous road trips. It was their thing, a most prized possession. Memories were made and a love that bonded them tightly, that is until their mother falls ill and passes away. Marley eventually moves on and out on her own becoming a successful beauty blogger. She has put Porter and the road trips behind her.

Marley’s older brother Paul is getting married and he wants one more road trip before he ties the knot. So her dad and Paul whisk her away in a ratty old camper and hilarity ensues. One thing after another happens to this poor girl, you can’t help but laugh and fall in love with her even more with every page. She definitely has spunk! They are the typical brother and sister, constantly pulling pranks on each other.

Paul is crazy, feminine, has a “man stink” lol (her words) and is a brother anyone would love to have.

Porter is sexy and comes off as a jerk at first but you will warm up to him! He is unsure of himself at times but his sense of humor is great! His love, even when not spoken, is never-ending for Marley and it is super adorable!

Their dad Bernie is hilarious and curses using president’s names. How adorable is that? He is sweet but fierce and all 3 of them fear his wrath!

The best part of the story is the fact that the author brings in things that are real. The iconic stops they make along Route 66 are real and that makes the story so much more fun. Almost believable really. I loved the history the characters had, they had all experienced the loss of the mother deeply and you could feel that in the way the characters described her.

The love story that comes from this book is funny, love-able and realistic. I loved this entire book, the story, the history, the iconic stops, the family dynamics, EVERYTHING. It was perfect in every way imaginable and I can not wait to read more from her. I really hope there eventually becomes a sequel to this book! I love Marley and Porter! ๐Ÿ™‚

Review: Noise Canceling Bluetooth Headphones

I have never owned a pair of wireless headphones, I just don’t use them that often. My husband on the other hand loves them and has had several pairs of them over the years. I was asked to review these noise canceling bluetooth headphones and let’s just say my interest was piqued once I seen the picture of them. They are unlike any other bluetooth headphones that I have ever been around. They are just earbuds. How can these work? They claim to be noise canceling, sweatproof and much more. I was skeptical to say the least.

IMG_20190108_071435

Upon arrival, I was impressed with how they were packaged. Nice outer box that houses the headphones/charging unit, the charging cord and extra earbud covers. All of it nice and orderly, just like I like it. I was surprised by how small they are. I’m not usually a fan of the earbuds that have the squishy piece that has to fit down in your ear, I just don’t like how they feel in my ears. I guess this is where the noise canceling part comes in lol, because once they are in everything is muffled.

IMG_20190108_071529

I was a little frustrated though because the package does not come with any type of instructions. No way of knowing how to use it I just started pushing buttons and messing around with it. I had the hardest time getting it to connect to my bluetooth on my Google Pixel. It was very frustrating! Once I did get it connected only one of the headphones worked. What the hell!? I was so confused! I finally got on Amazon to read other reviews, surely I was not the only one that was having this many issues. I figured at this point I would have to write a bad review because I was so irritated.

IMG_20190108_071517

Well, low and behold, there were instructions on the product page on Amazon. So first of all, that is ridiculous, add a damn instruction booklet to your product. Save your consumer a little bit of hassle please! Even when I found the instructions on Amazon, I still could not get them to work. At this point I was ready to throw the entire thing across the room. So not to ruin the product, I gave myself a time out and came back to it later.

IMG_20190108_071551

I finally got it to work and both are functioning correctly and have good sound quality. I still can’t figure out why it pauses when I touch the earbud, because there is no instruction on how to use it while it is functioning. According to Amazon it has the ability to use only one earbud at a time, which to me is weird. If I am going to listen to music or workout I will be using both earbuds.

Overall this is a strange product, not sure how to use it but if you finally get it to work then it works well. The sound is great and when it actually continually plays without pausing it is nice to use. I haven’t tried them while working out yet, but my concern with that is them falling out while running. I don’t like that you have to shove them in your ears so far for them to be in tightly but some people like them this way (my husband for example). I like the hard plastic ones and nothing will sway me from those! I want to see some bluetooth headphones with the hard plastic earbuds! Who’s with me!? ๐Ÿ™‚ They are kind of pricey and are super confusing to use. I’m not sure if I would recommend them or not, the concept is great but not knowing how to use them is a big pain in the butt.

If you want to check them out they are available on AMAZON.

Synopsis:

When Detroit Free Press reporter Elizabeth Balsam meets James Rich, his strange request–that she look up a relative she didn’t know she had in order to deliver an old camera and a box of photos–seems like it isn’t worth her time. But when she loses her job after a botched investigation, she suddenly finds herself with nothing but time.

At her great-aunt’s 150-year-old farmhouse, Elizabeth uncovers a series of mysterious items, locked doors, and hidden graves. As she searches for answers to the riddles around her, the remarkable stories of two women who lived in this very house emerge as testaments to love, resilience, and courage in the face of war, racism, and misunderstanding. And as Elizabeth soon discovers, the past is never as past as we might like to think.

Debut novelist Erin Bartels takes readers on an emotional journey through time–from the volatile streets of 1960s Detroit to the Underground Railroad during the Civil War–to uncover the past, confront the seeds of hatred, and discover where love goes to hide.

Erin lives in the beautiful, water-defined state of Michigan where she is never more than a ninetyย minute drive from one of the Great Lakes or six miles from an inland lake, river, or stream. She grew up in the Bay City area waiting for freighters and sailboats at drawbridges and watching the best 4th of July fireworks displays in the nation. She spent her college and young married years in Grand Rapids feeling decidedly not-Dutch. She currently lives with her husband and son in Lansing, nestled somewhere between angry protesters on the Capitol lawn and couch-burning frat boys at Michigan State University. Review:

A fantastic book! This is a great melding of a past and present story. I don’t normally like when books or movies jump back and forth between time periods, it is hard to keep things straight and I begin to lose interest. This book is different though, the chapters are dated. You know exactly when it is happening and there are only a few characters within each chapter. It is not overwhelming at all and makes for an easy read.

This is a story that revolves around a box of old photos. I wasn’t sure where this would take me but the back cover says “Take an emotional journey through time– from the volatile streets of 1960’s Detroit to Michigan’s Underground Railroad…” I had a time period in my head so I knew when but I really wasn’t sure how this story would end. It is a wide range of time periods that are so intricately woven together that you won’t want to stop!

It says it will take you on an emotional journey but I was not fully prepared for how deeply this book would make me feel. It takes you through a time of injustice and racism. A powerful story that will keep you turning the pages!

This author is new to me, but she did not disappoint. Her writing is fluent and flows so naturally I felt like I was in the story with the characters. It is such a powerful book filled with a rich history, new beginnings and a few little twists. I highly recommend reading this book. You will not be disappointed. I loved the story, the characters and the history. Go check it out! ๐Ÿ™‚
