Review:

Lynette Eason is a fantastic author and she does not dissapoint with this 4th in the series book. I happened to come across the Elite Guardians series about a year ago and I have since read all four books and I absolutely love all of them! Each one of them can be read as a standalone book but they each have enough information to tie them together. Unlike some series I have read, it does not bog you down with over informing you about what happened in the other books. Flows easily and has characters that you can’t help but love.

Haley and Steven, the main characters, are the cutest two people ever. They both have had their fair share of struggles through life but they don’t let it get them down. When their work brings them together, it is love at first sight for Steven. Haley is too preoccupied for love but she relies on Steven more and more throughout her troubles, and boy does she have some troubles. Family, work and personal issues aside she realizes that her life is changing and it’s changing fast.

There are surprises throughout the story and things that made me want to scream at the characters. It is a suspenseful, romantic, and crazy thrill ride to finding out who the real Haley is.  She has an amazing support system of friends and loved ones. It has a fantastic ending (not going to spoil it!) that will make you want to read more! I hope that there is another book! It truly is a fantastic series that you have to read! Go check it out! 🙂

“The Road to Paradise” ~Karen Barnett~ Review

paradise

Synopsis:

An ideal sanctuary and a dream come true–that’s what Margaret Lane feels as she takes in God’s gorgeous handiwork in Mount Rainier National Park. It’s 1927 and the National Park Service is in its youth when Margie, an avid naturalist, lands a coveted position alongside the park rangers living and working in the unrivaled splendor of Mount Rainier’s long shadow.

But Chief Ranger Ford Brayden is still haunted by his father’s death on the mountain, and the ranger takes his work managing the park and its crowd of visitors seriously. The job of watching over an idealistic senator’s daughter with few practical survival skills seems a waste of resources.

When Margie’s former fiancé sets his mind on developing the Paradise Inn and its surroundings into a tourist playground, the plans might put more than the park’s pristine beauty in danger. What will Margie and Ford sacrifice to preserve the splendor and simplicity of the wilderness they both love?

Karen Barnett’s vintage national parks novels bring to vivid life President Theodore Roosevelt’s vision for protected lands, when he wrote in Outdoor Pastimes of an American Hunter: “There can be nothing in the world more beautiful than the Yosemite, the groves of the giant sequoias and redwoods, the Canyon of the Colorado, the Canyon of the Yellowstone, the Three Tetons; and our people should see to it that they are preserved for their children and their children’s children forever, with their majestic beauty all unmarred.”

Author:

Karen Barnett is the award-winning author of The Golden Gate Chronicles (Out of the Ruins, Beyond the Ashes, and Through the Shadows) and Mistaken. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, and two kids, and three mischievous dachshunds. When she’s not writing, Karen enjoys photography, hiking, public speaking, decorating crazy birthday cakes, and dragging her family through dusty history museums. Oregon Christian Writers honored her with the Writer of Promise Award in 2013 and a Cascade Award for her debut novel, Mistaken, in 2014. In 2016, she was named Writer of the Year by the prestigious Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference. Karen is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers and Oregon Christian Writers and has been published in Guideposts and other national magazines.

Review:

This is a new author for me and I absolutely loved her style and this book! It captures your attention at the beginning and keeps you enthralled until the end! I look forward to finding other books by this author!

Set in 1927 we are transported back to a different time and a different way of life. When Margie sets out for a life on Mount Rainier no one expects her to last very long! But boy did she prove a lot of people wrong. She is a go-getter and a woman who won’t give up. Even despite everyone looking down on her for being a woman in the wilderness, she proves to them that she is meant to be there, she even teaches them a new thing or two!

Once she settles into her new way of life, Margie begins to forget about her conniving, stalkerish former fiance. He is seriously psycho! But her feeling of comfort is  washed away by the his sudden appearance at the Paradise Falls Inn. He is determined to take everything away from her and destroy the natural beauty of the Mount Rainier National Park. He doesn’t believe in her at all and treats her terribly! I can’t believe she was ever with him! Thank goodness she has Chief Ranger Ford on her side through everything. Forging an unlikely bond that eventually turns to something more, you can’t help but root for their relationship to blossom into something more.

It is definitely a good reminder to remember to be yourself and to not let anyone else get you down. She set out to do things she never imagined she could do. In the end she proved not only to everyone else that she could accomplish what she set her mind to but she proved to herself that she could do anything. It is a wonderful love story, with unexpected twists and turns. It is funny, sad, scary and sometimes includes all too real situations. Set in a time period that I am a tad obsessed with, makes this an overall favorite book for me! It is a book that I could easily read again.  I would recommend it to everyone! It is so good!

Review:

I am a big fan of Tracie Peterson’s work, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to read this book Beloved Hope. It is the second book of the Heart of The Frontier series. Unfortunately, with this book I had a really hard time getting through it. Which is very surprising to me, I have greatly enjoyed other books that she has written. I would assume you need to read the first book in this series to fully understand what is going on.  Usually with her series books they can be read as a standalone novel and you don’t need to read the previous ones, but that isn’t the case with this one.

My biggest issue with this particular book was the amount of characters she had. I had a really hard time remembering who was who and what they had to do with the story. She tries to shove a lot of information in a short amount of pages and a ton of characters, which in my opinion jumbles up the story and makes it hard to read. The flow of the book was choppy and I kept finding myself stopping and going back several pages just to figure out who that specific person was and why I needed to know who it was. There were a lot of unnecessary characters that could have just as easily been left out of the book and you still would have gotten the gist of it. Overall, the premise of the story is interesting and it has a lot of potential.

My suggestion if you are to read this series, definitely start with book number 1. I haven’t read it and I don’t plan to, this book has turned me off of finding more in this particular series. I definitely enjoy her other books, so please don’t think all of her books are terrible lol. To be specific I really enjoyed her book A Dream to Call My Own, it is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. Also A Love Transformed is a fantastic book! It is also part of a series but I read just that book and it was a great read!
