“The Old Man and the Princess” ~Sean Paul Thomas~ Review

An eccentric old Irish man, who claims to be ‘not of this Earth,’ kidnaps Sersha, a young, headstrong, Irish girl, from the streets of Galway and tries to convince her that her life’s destiny is tied to a mystical cave in the Scottish highlands.

But with half of the Irish criminal underworld violently on their trail, Sersha, struggles back and forth with the old man’s real identity and far fetched intentions to whether he truly is genuine in his wild and fantastical beliefs. Or is he really just a mad, demented, old fool, having some kind of mental breakdown in his twilight years.

Sean is an author from Edinburgh in Scotland. He spent most of his childhood and teenage years growing up on the move with his Scottish and Irish Parents (No they weren’t bank robbers πŸ˜‰ in the likes of Cyprus, Germany, Wales and England, as an army brat.

With a keen interest in both reading and writing he was diagnosed with the travel and writing bugs very early on in life. Now, writing, traveling, reading, cinema and Scottish football are his main passions in life, along with cooking, yoga, meditation and health and fitness.

His main inspiration for writing today comes from living in such a beautiful, charming and hauntingly, Gothic city, such as Edinburgh. This awe inspiring wee city has given Sean so much amazing inspiration to write the more time he spends there.

At this moment Sean is working on a couple of screenplays adaptations of his books and a new, dark, apocalyptic thriller novel that should be out in the late summer of 2017.

The Old Man and The Princess,Β it sounds like something straight out of a fairytale…. Does the old man turn into a Prince, is their a frog involved…lol these were my initial questions when I first seen the title. Boy was I wrong! It was a very different book, one full of a ton of surprises.

Sersha is an orphaned 15 year old girl roaming the streets of Galway, Ireland. She ends up being kidnapped by a very eccentric older man named Derek. He’s a little crazy but he could possibly hold the secrets to her past. He makes her believe she is a princess from a far off planet that they can only reach by traveling to Scotland.

Creepy, right?!? I couldn’t ever decide how I felt about Derek, on the one hand he comes off as a super creeper, but then again I always felt like he was hiding something. Sersha, decides to believe him, hoping for the answers. Maybe she is truly a princess? Maybe she can finally find out about her birth parents. Sersha is a fascinating character that you can’t help but feel sorry for. She has spent her life in and out of different foster homes and has never had anyone who cared.

After awhile the Irish mob start to chase after them, but why?!?!?! Why would they care about an orphan and a crazy old man? Is there something more, is the old man right? Well I just had to find out so I read this book through within two days, which is nothing short of a miracle with 3 kids always badgering me lol. BUT, I will not spoil the ending of this book for you because it is a magical experience that you have to indulge in for yourself from start to finish. This author has an amazing way with words and he takes you to a whole different world (I’d love to visit Ireland!). He takes you on a wild ride through a million questions, only to land on the final truth in the end. It is something you have to experience for yourself! Love love loved this book! I will definitely be keeping this in my read again book stack!
