Synopsis:

Cossette Consistently Brings the Old Testament to Life in an Engrossing, Fresh New Way

Alanah, a Canaanite, is no stranger to fighting and survival. When her family is killed in battle with the Hebrews, she disguises herself and sneaks onto the battlefield to avenge her family. The one thing she never counted on was surviving.

Tobiah, a Hebrew warrior, is shocked to find an unconscious, wounded woman among the Canaanite casualties. Compelled to bring her to a Hebrew healer back at their camp, he is soon confronted with a truth he can’t ignore: the only way to protect this enemy is to marry her.

Unused to being weak and vulnerable, Alanah submits to the marriage–for now. As she comes to know and respect Tobiah and his people, however, she begins to second-guess her plans of escape. But when her past has painfully unanticipated consequences, the tentative peace she’s found with Tobiah, the Hebrews, and Yahweh is shaken to the core. Can Alanah’s fierce heart and strength withstand the ensuing threats to her life and all she’s come to love?

Author:

When she is not homeschooling her two sweet kids (with a full pot of coffee at hand),

Connilyn Cossette is scribbling notes on spare paper, mumbling about her imaginary

friends, and reading obscure, out-of-print history books. There is nothing she likes better

than digging into the rich, ancient world of the Bible and uncovering buried gems of

grace that point toward Jesus. Although a Pacific Northwest native, she now lives near

Dallas, Texas. Connect with her at www.connilyncossette.com.

Review:

I have never read a book from this author before but I was super excited by the look of the front cover and the description! I was not disappointed in the least! She is an amazing author and even though this was the third book in the series it did not seem like it at all! It read as a stand alone book, it was not until later that I realized there were other books and they all link to this final book in the series. But that’s OK, because I plan on buying the first and second book!! It was that good!!! I have to have more!! 🙂

This book had me hooked from the very first page. A young woman raging off to battle dressed as a man?!?!?! She is out of her element but she is determined to avenge her father and brothers death. From that very first battle it flies through a lot of ups and downs. Just when I think poor Alanah (our main leading lady) finally is going to have a settled life, something crazy happens! Literally, the entire book this poor girl is fighting for her life for some reason or another! But she finds God in the midst of all the chaos and realizes that her life and the plan she had for it is not the way it will be. God has a magnificent plan for her life and it is so cool to see it play out!

This book is based on stories from the bible so bits of it are hard to understand, especially the heritages of the families and how they are all interrelated and why they can attack certain places and not others. The names in this book are really hard to pronounce, so I came up with nicknames for all of them lol! 😉 BUT, despite all of this it does not take away from the story! If you can get over large words and a bit of complicated lineage (which if you read the bible, it can get kind of confusing keeping everyone straight too!) you will not regret reading this book! It is such a fantastic read and the characters are so well developed and the things that happen to them make each and every one of them so much stronger! A great message and a great story! I can not wait to read other books by this author!!

I received this book for a fair and honest review.
