Everyone knows that war romances never last . . .
After a whirlwind romance and wedding, Helen Eberhart Daley, an army nurse, and Lieutenant Frank Daley, M.D. are sent to the front lines of Europe with only letters to connect them for months at a time.
Surrounded by danger and desperately wounded patients, they soon find that only the war seems real—and their marriage more and more like a distant dream. If they make it through the war, will their marriage survive?

By far one of the best books I have ever read! A romance novel that will knock you off of your feet. It had me from the very first page and it got better with each passing page! We get enough back story on Helen and Frank to understand them as individual people, before we delve into them as a couple. It is amazing! This book is set in the midst of World War II! A very scary time in history, yet a time where you stood up for your country and defended it at all costs.
Not only is this a wonderful tale of two people finding love in a tricky situation, it is based on a true story! Thinking about them as real people, real situations, real emotions, it makes it so much more exciting and real. I felt like I was there with them every step of the way. The author has a way of transporting you into the past and keeping you there throughout the whole book.
It has a lot of ups and downs. The whole book begins with Pearl Harbor happening right then and there. Then once Helen, our main leading lady, finds her soul mate Frank their world is turned upside down. They spend months writing letters to one another, trying to maintain a relationship despite their circumstances. I couldn’t imagine being in their situation, wondering from day to day if your husband/wife is dead or alive. It would be nerve-wracking! I admire them for keeping a sturdy relationship through everything they went through!
Knowing that this is based on a true story made it even better! The very end of the book as information about how our author Dandi Daley Mackall came about getting the letters that this book was based on. It is very interesting and so neat to get a little history of how the book came about. Great book, and a great author I absolutely loved this book! You have to go check it out! You will not regret it at all! 🙂 🙂 🙂
I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
